The Wellness We Don't Talk About: Letting Life Change You

We talk a lot about discipline. About sticking to the plan, about consistency, pushing through resistance.
But here is something we don't talk about enough.
What if what we need is different now?
What if the version of wellness that worked for you six months ago, isn't the one that serves you now?
We are so quick to label these moments as falling off track.
But what if that shift isn't "falling off track", but instead growth?
You are allowed to change. In fact, you are meant to.

Back when I first started out in this industry I knew a bodybuilder.
His discipline was undeniable. Routines were executed down to the last rep and gram, day in and day out, every box was ticked.
As a new coach, I thought that this was what was needed for success.
My early approach to fitness quickly became influenced by that same rigidity: ticking the boxes, repeating the same movements, eating the same foods, and becoming fixated on these checklists, despite how life shifted around me.
But as I watched this bodybuilder tick the boxes, day in and day out, I noticed that one box was missing from his list.
Wellness.
I began to notice the cracks.

That stayed with me. Its easy to confuse control with care. But I have learnt that real wellness can't be starved, silenced or micromanaged. It has to move with you.
Grow, soften, adapt. Routines that are built on rigidity wont bend, they just break. Routines that allow yourself to meet wherever you are, again and again, as you grow? These are the ones that will carry you through seasons.
SO HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN A NEW PHASE?
Sometimes this is obvious- a new job, relationship, a move.
Other times its subtle.
Your body feels different.
Your usual routine doesnt energise you anymore.
The food you used to enjoy doesnt sit right or you feel more tired.
You are craving a different type of movement.
Or, maybe even just stillness.
These aren.t signs that you have lost your way, but instead signs that you are craving something a bit different. A shift in your routine is needed. An invite to re evaluate.
Ask yourself "What do I need now?"
Now we get to the really tricky part.
Allowing yourself the permission to respond to that change. We are taught to fear inconsistency, to see adapting programmes as a weakness.
In reality though, the ability to pivot is a strength.
It takes courage to let go of what once worked.
To admit that your needs have evolved.
Staying connected and honouring what your body needs- thats real wellness.
Not every act of wellness looks like sweat. It can look like...
A walk without tracking the steps.
A stretch before sleep.
Movement just for fun, instead of following a plan.
A meal that feels grounding.
Letting yourself rest without earning it.
Drinking water before the headache hits.
Pausing when your mind says push.
Choosing stillness over structure—just for today.
The take away?
You are allowed to change your fitness plan.
You are allowed to reset goals.
You are allowed to evolve your habits
You are allowed to honour where you are at right now.
That bodybuilder I knew? He had the discipline to succeed at bodybuilding.
But in the end- it was his wellness that failed him.
Wellness isn't about holding it together.
It's about knowing when to loosen the grip.
If this resonated, save it.
And maybe share it with someone who needs this reminder today.
Until next time
